Who are you and what is your connection to Paul? Our names are Lewis Oliver & Katie Johnson. Family an friends of Paul and Vicky
Why are you joining Paul on this trip? We are going on this trip as we can’t get over what a great challenge and achievement this will be for Paul and the team; to be a part of it, albeit a small part, is really special.
My Mum, (Lynn Oliver) always tells me funny stories about Paul in their younger years along with the other Oliver’s. Unfortunately I can’t remember Paul before his accident as I was too young but as far as I’m concerned the man is a legend and I can’t wait to create some more funny stories on the walk!
Also, Katie hasn’t had the pleasure of meeting Paul and Vicky properly so I’m looking forward to introducing her to them and we are both looking forward to meeting the team.
When are you joining the trip? We are joining up with the team on 21st May in Leon and departing on the 25th May (somewhere in Spain).

Paul is my brother in law, together with my sister Vicky (Paul’s wife) and my husband Mark we all grew up together going through infant, junior and secondary school. We are not only family but best friends.
Why are you joining Paul on this trip? I’m joining Paul on his challenge because it’s for an extremely wonderful cause, not just raising funds but bringing awareness to spinal injuries.
It’s an opportunity of a lifetime and it’s going to be very challenging, extremely difficult at times but I know we will have lots of laughs and probably a few tears walking 500 hundred miles as a team.
I love walking every day and being outdoors and I’m looking forward to seeing the changing views, the changing weather and meeting our fellow pilgrims along the way.
When are you joining the trip? I will be joining Paul and his team for the whole ‘way’, from start to finish.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Paul for approximately 25 years. Before his accident he was a constant entertainer / extrovert, who bought fun and humour where ever he went.
Why are you joining Paul on this trip? The dreadful day of his accident, general thought was he will never cope !! ...... Nothing could have been further from that thought. His constant drive to live life as near to normal as possible, his ongoing struggle to maintain physical fitness and most of all his dedication to those who have sustained similar injures, needing reassurance and assistance to move forward. His many hours of voluntary work for the Spinal charity, which has now lead to The Camino Way walk, makes me proud to be his friend, he is an inspiration and I want to help fulfil his dream of raising as much money as possible for the walk. So dig deep please 😊
When are you joining the trip? I'm in from the start! body willing I intend to walk the 500 miles.

Who are you and what is your connection to Paul? I'm Olly Fry.
I went school with both Dave and Kim a long time ago and have remained close friends with Dave. Through that relationship I have met Paul on quite a few occasions, though I'm looking forward to getting to know him better through the walk.
Why are you joining Paul on this trip? For me taking part was an easy decision. I had heard about the Camino de Santiago a long time ago and always though it would be a really interesting thing to do. However, owing to work and life commitments I have never found the time.
When Dave mentioned it to me my initial response was hesitance as there doesn't ever seem like the 'right time' to commit to such a undertaking. However, it soon became clear that this was in fact the perfect chance to do the walk amongst friends and supporting such a great character as Paul. For me the walk is all about helping each other and enjoying the sense of being part of a truly brave undertaking by Paul. I feel privileged to have been asked to join and I can't wait!
When are you joining the trip? I'm in this one for the long haul. I will be doing the walk from start to finish (God/body willing!).

Who are you and what is your connection to Paul? I’m David Smart, Paul’s son.
Why are you joining Paul on this trip? He’s my Dad! Aside from that, it’s been 17 years now since Dad had his accident and I have seen him conquer so many challenges, through the early years of getting through the day to day tasks that you and I take for granted to his work with the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust, to this, a completely mind-blowing challenge for someone in his situation. I’m very proud to be part of this trip and to support Mum and Dad.
When are you joining the trip? I plan to be there for the kick off! I’ll join Dad for the first week starting in France at St Jean-Pied-de-Port to pushing through the Pyrenees and leaving at Logrono (reluctantly) to give some of the other keen walkers a go! I will pick up again later in the trip around O Cebreiro if not earlier.
